Cause I got my own domain and a friend hosting, I can't not have my own blog. So I can't do this Vox thing anymore. I hope all you Voxers (and LJers if there are any of you) follow me still. I'll definitely keep reading the Vox blogs. ]]>Just wanted to quickly blast out this information to anyone I talk to ever. If I ask you "What's up?" or "sup" or any derivation of such I mean it as a greeting and a question. I really want to know what you're doing, not just initiate conversation. Don't you think it's more efficient that way?
]]>I've made it a habit to click on a random blog from the recently posted list you get. I do it almost every time "at random" but mostly on female blogs for some reason. Anyway, I've noticed that a large percentage of those blogs have some portion of their posts dedicated to reviewing the latest fashions. These reviews obviously contain many photos and are totally lame and pointless... to me. So, I kinda kept going, what the heck. I mean, I know girls like shopping, but I'm pretty sure this academic interest in the actual fashion industry is new. But I have a hypothesis. Well, I have two, but one is probably right and sad, so I'm glad I came up with an alternative. Hope is good.
Hypothesis #1 (the sad probably correct 1): The rise of fashion based reality TV is increasing interest in the fashion industry. This coupled with increased access allowed by the internet is creating a broad base amateur fashion following female flock.
Hypothesis #2 (HOPE): Women are complicated creatures. They have conflicting desires and their brains are designed to allow them to partially address all of them simultaneously without necessarily knowing it. One over arching desire is to get a mate. Another desire is to not be kicked from the tribe, meaning to be accepted by other females. Step one, appease the females by doing girly things. Step two, attract men. In the blog world these two steps can be merged with the fashion post. Fashion is girly, but if you put enough pictures of models on a blog male readership will increase. BAM! Problems solved. Plus there's probably some percentage of guys who want a chick who's into fashion... maybe.
I heard about this new hand drying technology, or something like it, a long time ago (a year?). I think I've thought of it a long time ago, but maybe I'm just making that up. The point is they need to expand this to other things. The most obvious, to me, is dishes. Relatively simple design. You get two of these jets pointing at each other and a large draining collection dish at the base. The user would pass dishes between the two jets (for design sake there should be a ring to pass through so that nobody has to guess if they're at the correct levels on all axises) pushing all the water off of the dish into the collection dish which drains in the sink. With technology people could eat, rinse their dishes with water, dry in a few seconds, and then store the clean dishes. Sounds pretty cool to me.
]]>A week or two ago I discovered a new podcast. It is of people telling stories on stage. Most are really good, and they're just normal stories not science or skepticism or extreme nerdism so everyone should be able to enjoy them. It's call The Moth and it's in my widget way down in the right side bar somewhere. Also, here.
Also, I thought of an invention today. I'm sure someone has invented it before, but it should really be a common item. The invention is a chair with a sensor that can tell if you are sitting in it. The chair is linking wirelessly to the computer. Using the data from the sensor, applications can determine your status as away or not. When you get up and leave it will automatically change your status on e-mail, instant messaging... possibly even a land line phone at an office. Seems simple enough.
Yesterday at work they bought us lunch and a cake, us being John (the other remaining intern) and I. His last day is tomorrow, mine is Wednesday. It was one of those giant chocolate Costco cakes. It was good. It was eaten entirely. They also all signed a card for me and talked about how great my work is and how young we are. :)

]]>I'm officially a mover and shaker again this year, which means I'll be moving back to Central on the 18th.
We stayed at Bob's when we were at PAX. So... here's Bob.
I went to PAX this weekend and it was awesome. Last thing I did there was go see the Spore presentation and it got me all excited for Spore again. I've now officially preordered it and will be playing in about 5 days 19 hours. So if you get it let me know your name so I can get ur creatures in my world and stuff.
Left 4 Dead, zombie survival FPS type thing where you have to play 4 player co-op. Has neat stuff... looks cool.
Little Big Planet has always looked awesome, I'm still confused how the game will actually play, though. I'm gonna keep my eye on it for sure.
Dawn of War II looks pretty awesome. It's not really an RTS, kinda RTS style squad control, which is better for me.
Warhammer Online is now officially lame. I'm not interested.
Got to play with the D&D character creation and visualization tools. Coming to beta "soon". They look quite comprehensive. I wish they'd let me have them now.
Prince of Persia looks like it was made for me. I will have it someday, regardless of the fact that I'll have to buy a new system and tv. I'm working on convicning myself to hold off past release day so I the purchases make a little more sense.
Pat says Fallout 3 looks pretty amazing. I didn't go see it in a failed attempt to spread out our experience, but it does sound very cool.
There were tons of other games that looked interesting. Far Cry 2 didn't look sucky, Dragon Age seemed interesting, Demigods seems to be DotA only on purpose, Aieon or something was MMO w/ flying, then there's Guitar Hero 4 w/ drums of coolness.
Oh, also, Gamer's 2: Dorkness Rising is great. Maybe better than the first one, which I loved. Must see for anyone who's played D&D.
I also saw Ling, from Central and a few of the GEEC club people. Saw Tristan and some of his crew from Linfield. Saw Kim's friend with sideburns, and Doug from Tri-Cities. Saw the TRS guys, Adam Savage, Wil Wheaton, a few of the 1UP guys, JoCo, and of course the Penny Arcade creators from celebrity land.
My beard was praised many times. I even found a few people with similar looks. So, in conclusion, PAX rules..
