I went to PAX this weekend and it was awesome. Last thing I did there was go see the Spore presentation and it got me all excited for Spore again. I've now officially preordered it and will be playing in about 5 days 19 hours. So if you get it let me know your name so I can get ur creatures in my world and stuff.
Left 4 Dead, zombie survival FPS type thing where you have to play 4 player co-op. Has neat stuff... looks cool.
Little Big Planet has always looked awesome, I'm still confused how the game will actually play, though. I'm gonna keep my eye on it for sure.
Dawn of War II looks pretty awesome. It's not really an RTS, kinda RTS style squad control, which is better for me.
Warhammer Online is now officially lame. I'm not interested.
Got to play with the D&D character creation and visualization tools. Coming to beta "soon". They look quite comprehensive. I wish they'd let me have them now.
Prince of Persia looks like it was made for me. I will have it someday, regardless of the fact that I'll have to buy a new system and tv. I'm working on convicning myself to hold off past release day so I the purchases make a little more sense.
Pat says Fallout 3 looks pretty amazing. I didn't go see it in a failed attempt to spread out our experience, but it does sound very cool.
There were tons of other games that looked interesting. Far Cry 2 didn't look sucky, Dragon Age seemed interesting, Demigods seems to be DotA only on purpose, Aieon or something was MMO w/ flying, then there's Guitar Hero 4 w/ drums of coolness.
Oh, also, Gamer's 2: Dorkness Rising is great. Maybe better than the first one, which I loved. Must see for anyone who's played D&D.
I also saw Ling, from Central and a few of the GEEC club people. Saw Tristan and some of his crew from Linfield. Saw Kim's friend with sideburns, and Doug from Tri-Cities. Saw the TRS guys, Adam Savage, Wil Wheaton, a few of the 1UP guys, JoCo, and of course the Penny Arcade creators from celebrity land.
My beard was praised many times. I even found a few people with similar looks. So, in conclusion, PAX rules..
Pat's been here. He left for the Oregon Coast, though, so I have time to make a blog post. It's been a pretty gay ol' time, though, only in the classic sense of the word. D&D, Brawl, movies, WoW, all the good things in life.
Since my last post I've watched Shoot Em Up and Tropic Thunder. The former is what would happen if a talented 12 year old kid wrote a script for an action movie, then grew up to be a director and made the script adult without taking any of the stuff from the action scenes out. Totally ridiculous actionyness, totally ridiculous plot, totally ridiculous dialog, basically one of the best movies ever. I wouldn't recommend it for people not in the male 16-30 demographic, though. Tropic Thunder was very funny, kinda along the same vein as Shoot Em Up but more planned comedy and less pure ridiculous actionyness. (fire alarms go off, apparently spontaneously) They do swear a lot, but frankly, if you are so uptight you can't handle swearing, you probably should just give up on comedy and joy in general.
In other news, my roommates next year are new. I originally was gonna have Donny and Yusuke, but then Donny chickened out and graduated, and then Yusuke's paperwork got all messed up, so who knows where he'll be, and now I got stranger asians (strasians) for roommates. Maybe I'll get the single this time. Poor Yusuke is stuck holding a bunch of my stuff and he doesn't even get to use it next year. (fire alarms go off, apparently spontaeously)
Yeah, so the D&D referred to in the first paragraph is only the planning, character making, and general chatting phase of D&D. No actual playing has taken place. We, in this case, my friends from disparate places, are trying to get an online game going. If I had all 6 of us in one town we'd probably get going in about 1 night, but online is slower. Still, progress has been steady, and at this juncture I think we're all good to go. We just need everyone to be around at a computer at the same time. Unfortunately, Pat is gone so likely that won't happen for a bit.
I'm a halfling rogue. Pretty classic. I've done quite a bit of thinking about the character, though, so in my mind he's specific enough to not just be a stereotype. Wrote up a couple pages of backstory. I also created a wicked sweet spreadsheet with all the stats and stuff. I'm pretty proud. I keep adding stuff to it. I can't help myself.
Work keeps happening. I'm just been plugging away at the website. We've got to present it in a couple weeks, I guess. My partner intern, the guy doing the database, was the only one informed of this. Nobody in charge really talks to me. I kinda am an independant at this point. Progress on the site is a little jumpy. The whole thing was planned not at all because neither of us actually building the thing ever have all the information. We keep getting it in trickles, so we keep having to improvise and slap new stuff on. And at this stage, the site is sufficiently complex that changes almost always cause bugs somewhere. I'm not stressed about the presentation, though. I've definately done enough work to impress, and I'll probably have everything working smooth before the day in question. I might even have time to try and make the site look pretty. That is the one concern. I have spent almost no time on CSS, and I am not skilled in that regard, so if the people judging me aren't impressed with features and functionality, and only want color schemes and rounded corners, I might be in trouble. I'm pretty sure the engineering firm I'm working for will be ok with my approach, though.
So, Pat will return in a week for a few days. And then he's going back to Vegas. I suppose that would be a really bad week to take off. Stupid work. It's conspiring against me.
Yo. Long time no blog. Did you know I only have 5.5 hours of free time a day this summer? Did you further know that my average daily podcast allotment is approximately 5.5 hours? This is causing some problems. I'm still reading all of the updates you guys make... like... all 4 or 5 of them. :P
Mostly this post is to inform you, my loyal friends, that I have a cell phone now. My dad gave me one and I pushed the buttons and stuff. I haven't actually called anyone but I assume it works. Anyway, you should all give me your numbers so I can be one of the "in" people now. Or whatever.
I'm going to Seattle this weekend for to attend my grandma's memorial. I will consequently not be around town this weekend to go to Kim's party, or buy Rock Band, both of which I might have done. I will, however, please my mother and extended family, perhaps, and get further on my research into the function of D&D 4.0.
At work I finished the first assignment thing, at least for now. My next assignment is different, and so far very vague, so I'm kinda back into that not doing real work part of work. Maybe I'll catch up on some podcasts.
Dim demands job update but there isn't much to tell. So far I've worked 4 days. Day 1 was mostly getting the orientation treatment and taking all the tests so that you can work out at Hanford and getting a badge and whatnot. Days 2 and 3 were spent in this meeting that most of my department was going to. It was an exercise in using this software and this decision making process. My boss guys were just watching, but there was a panel running through the exercise and stuff. Day 4 my boss guys had big meetings and presentations to do so they didn't have time to do anything with me. So, I've read a bunch of documents, I've gotten some software installed, I've sent in my timecard so I get paid, and that's about it.
Probably will get my D&D books on Monday. Amazon says they sent them yesterday. First they told me I wouldn't get them until July 14th, so I was concidering just buying them at a store or something, but then the changed their minds. I wish I had them for the long weekend, like I probably should, but oh well.
I've got tons of podcasts to listen to.
Ok. So I've not done much blogging lately. Not really sure why, guess I've just been distracted with other stuff. Quick run down of the goings ons.
1. Years over. I probably got a 4.0 this quarter, or something close to it.
2. I'm back in Kennewick for the summer. I have an internship starting Monday that's going to make my summer a lot like school, only worse, however. I get paid, though. About .48 cents per second, so I guess I gotta look at the bright side.
3. My grandma died.
Guess that's the major events in my life. Sharese is moving back to town on the 16th... which is exciting. Potentially, anyway. She might decide not to associate with me and mine, in which case it's pretty boring. Linda, girl from middle school, joined the military and is going to basic in a few days apparently. So... that's big for her. *shrug* Pat's missing, but he took some big actuary test on Tuesday. Haven't heard anything since, so maybe it killed him. Ody and Keston and Mike and all those kids graduated. Ody has an internship job thing. Donny walks today. Or walked. I dunno.
D&D starts Tuesday. 3.5 Eberron stuff. Hopefully my 4.0 books get here soon and I can start working on running a 4.0 campaign.
Ecology.
I have to write a super annotated bibliography. Super in that it's like an annotated bibliography, but you have to write more about each article. Also super in that it is due weeks before the paper. Also super in that all the articles have to be about ecology, specifically the diversity of macroinvertebrates in streams and the intermediate disturbance hypothesis.
I have to write 10 - 15 sentences about each article, summarizing everything. I have to do this for at least 15 articles. Do you want to know what this is possible? Because apparently there are millions of people publishing all kinda of random crap about ecology. Seriously, half these studies are worse than the one Pat (that's Linfield Pat, thus no link) and I are doing currently. I think the big qualification you need to get your paper published is statistics software so your article can have those pretty equations and such in it.
So I'm in the CS lab working on this, and I have managed to finish one. I want to cry now. Bah, I haven't even had to start looking for new articles I didn't already reference in my research proposal. Google will help with that. This paper is going to be longer than my proposal was too, I wonder if she realizes that? She's going to have to read a minimum of 1650 sentences for this assignment. Actually, 1652, I think my first one had 12 sentences. :P She's not going to do that. Maybe I should slip some test sentences in there too see. She's a pretty fresh professor, maybe she's not learned to not read what she assigns yet. It takes her an awfully long time to return stuff. /shrug
Anyway, I'm just ranting and procrastinating. Part of my trouble is that I have a headache, which I never have, and which I am therefore ill prepared to work through. I'm apparently not completely cured of whatever blight struck me earlier.
I finished watching all of the D&D PHB PSA video things. Kait sent me the link... to the second one for some reason. There are a lot of them though. All the gamers should check them out. The jokes don't really have much to do with D&D though, so maybe anyone would like 'em.
Played a bit of Civ 4 lately, too. Quite a bit actually. The game is addicting, and easy so you think you're doing well. Plus it takes no thought unless you want it to, so you can do it at the same time as other things. Other than that I do homework. We have a genetics test next week I think. And probably some other things. I'm sure there's going to be a Thursday. Same old, same old.
Haven't updated in a long time, for me. I had some really busy days back at Tuesday and Wednesday last week and have been catching up since.
Haven't missed much. Keston started playing FF7, I think he does it all wrong, but it results in some funny conversations, hence the title. There's been a flurry of D&D activity as Keston started a new campaign (I'm not in it, I just have been helping people with characters) and bmills might start one. For me specifically I have to level Alai, my newest character, and I've had to level Sal twice, since some strange things happened in moving that campaign online. And I've force started up my online game. Good to see all the D&D happenings.
Yesterday I saw Stranger than Fiction, for free of course. I thought it was really good. It was the type of movie that is better if you watch it alone, at least for me, and since I was alone, it scored extra points. I can't really figure out what I liked about it in particular, but I remember it felt enjoyable, so I give it high marks. Perhaps I just identify with the character more than I normally do (he habitually counts). I've always liked the idea that fictional characters are real as well, which is sorta a major topic of the movie. Whatever, I don't like reviewing movies, so I won't.
Brown doesn't want me.
My independent work with Dr. Kruchten is going nowhere fast. Stupid columns are hard. Basically I spend a few hours making sure all the tube connections are secure, and that results in a really slow drip rate. So then we switch to a pump, so I have to redo everything, twice, since we switched to a bigger column, and now we think the pump blew out the, oh... what's it called, the little filter at the bottom that keeps the pressure from just pushing out the column. Anyway, we broke it, with the lowest setting on the pump. So now we have to remake the column, and even then we don't really have a solution. Course we could be wrong, the little stopper thing could still be intact, but I don't think so.
Otherwise school is ok. Nothing is very easy, but I'll survive. Have to write another ecology paper by Thursday. At least this time it doesn't have to be all flowery. This time I just have to write around the fact that there was no science in anything we did. :P
I guess I never stated, but I'm feeling 100% cured of my illness. Still taking the antibiotics though. Gotta kill those buggers. Little worried that taking them so long after being cured will weaken my immune system, since penicillin indiscriminately kills bacteria, and I have lots of good ones in me, but not too worried. I'm not taking the decongestants, so I have lots of those left over. I can use them to make meth.
Remember when I posted about poor peanut butter container designs? Well, the day came. Luckily I found a mini hack saw in one of the piles of stuff in the living room and managed to reach my rightful peanut products. Ody was worried I'd get a big dose of plastic particle, but I didn't notice any. I've started work on my second poorly designed peanut butter container.
I guess I should say some things. My final sucked. My professor said he wanted it to be easier than our previous tests because we weren't doing well enough, and easier to grade because it took him 12 hours to grade 30 tests last time or something. So he made this test that was super hard, super stupid, and not easy to grade. Luckily I think I did better or about as bad as everyone else, and given that that's going to be pretty bad, I doubt it will affect my grade much. And if it does... meh, won't be enough to matter. A nice cap to show my professors incompetence though.
I also wanted to say that I think it kinda sucks that there are no longer the 5 blogs most recently updated before you made your update displayed every time you post. Anyone else agree with this... or is this me? Am I the only one this has happened to?
I can't decide if I should be a human or a dromite.
John, my roommate of the past four years, came back from his trip out into the mountains yesterday. He cleaned the kitchen, gave everyone one a pine cone, and then apparently went home. Keston says his pine cone is bigger than mine, but I think he's just over compensating.
Well, here's that song I was trying to post. It's only half of the whole song, I only have half. To understand music you only need tiny pieces of works, remember that.
Mom is here. Probably have a pretty active day tomorrow.
Anyone have any character ideas for a psionic campaign? I can't pick. /sigh
